FDR and Flint River blog reflection

                                                                    Native Azaleas
Are so bright
They live near the
Flint River watershed
There is only 8 species
Near it.
They can be
Yellow and pink.
It is bright yellow as the sun
In the sky.
People like to collect them
And admire them.
They live in nice moist soil.
They are a shrub
People like to walk by me.
Along the river.

We learned about FDR and his life with polio we also watched a movie this week. The things shaped his life was polio and Eleanor.  Polio shaped it because he got it from drinking dirty water and it also shaped him because he cant walk any more. Also he helped others with polio too like him. He made a community with people with polio and got doctors to help.  Eleanor shaped his life because she helped him when he had polio. Sarah He accomplished getting a way to help people with polio like him. He also accomplished of founding a research for polio. Then, he accomplished to be president.

Blog reflection 12/14/12

What we been doing in reading groups is reading a book called Where WTLB. We been doing in reading groups we been reading the chapters in the book. Then, we were answering questions after we read a chapter. We also highlight the answers for the questions in the book.  The plot of the story is that Mary Call and the sibling are keeping a secret that their dad died from other people in the story. Also trying to keep a secret from Kiser and the Connell’s because they are always wondering where Roy Luther is.  I think the book is very interesting and has lots of things happening to Mary Call and the family.  Also some conflicts happening after the dad died.  Some of the themes in this book are family, a nice sharing friend, caring for each other; know where they are and what’s coming up conflicts.

I am like a snowflake

Because I am fun

When people think of the snow

They will get happy

And excited

I am reflective

Because I can reflect

Into the past

Snowflakes are made out of water

And I am made out of water too

And sometimes you can see

It when you are sad

When you cry

You will see the water

ccommunity service project

What we did last week was that we went to two community service projects near our school. They looked kind of small from the outside, but in the inside was big. We learned how they help the people and what they do there for a certain amount of time. What we did there was we got a tour of the Georgia Justice Project and the Genesis Shelter and we got to see the rooms. I learned that they keep the families at the Genesis Shelter for six months. They have babies from newborn to six months. The community service is valuable because you are giving time to help them and giving things like food and clothing and toys that they need.  We are collecting things that the families need for the Genesis Shelter. We are collecting things from people around our school.so we can bring it to the Genesis Shelter for the homeless families there.

Weekly Reflection 11/13/12

What we learned this week about the Appalachian culture is that back then the Appalachian people used to tell stories. What they still did was singing and dancing. They used to hunt rabbits with their dogs to find them. What else they did was that they would exaggerate their stories to the real life. They used to hand make their own instruments and their own toys.  The girls could not talk to boys. The boys had to chase the girls to talk to them. The people in Appalachia had different accents then now later in life.

Getting taken from my house

From white man

On to the trail

To Oklahoma

In the west

Now to a prison camp

With my own kind

Cold

Less food

Barely have anything to sleep on

And underneath

Three months passed

Body in very much agony

Can barely walk

Any farther

Somewhere getting close

Couple months later

We got to Oklahoma

Now we make our homes

And get good food to eat

And then rest for a very long night

Trail of Tears blog reflection

What I am going to talk about is the Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears was held in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and North Carolina. There was a removal of the Cherokees to the west. It was sad for the people on the Trail of Tears because they had to move out of their homes that they stayed for a very long time. There were lots of people on the Trail of Tears and lots of Indians and other people and animals that went with them died on the Trail of Tears. The Cherokee’s land is special and if the Cherokee leave the land the Cherokee will feel like they will die If they leave the land. It is special to them. The Cherokees don’t want to leave the land, but the white people made a treaty with the Cherokees that said that they would have to leave the land so they can find gold on the land and the Cherokee have to move west.

The Cherokee people

On the Trail of Tears

Sad

Getting treated horribly

Getting dragged

Out of homes

To the stockades

Lots of walking

Very far away

To the west

People dying

Along the way

From their homes

That they lived for a long time

Dahlonega 10/26/12

This week on Wednesday we went to Dahlonega. It was really cool and fun. We got to pan for some gold. Some people did not get any gold. Before the trip we learned about where the gold is in Georgia. Then we learned what Hernando de Soto did when he came to find gold. The third thing is we learned about the Trail of Tears and the Cherokee Indians. What we learned in the museum was how the stamp mill work and how it was used with gold. The next thing we learned was how they made gold coins. The third thing we learned was that the top of the college and the state capital building have gold on them. The thing we learned in the mine was how big it is. The gold is so small in the mine that you can’t see it around you. We learned about how many stories are in the mine and how long it is.

Cloudland Canyon

Last Tuesday, we went to Cloudland Canyon.  The three cool things I saw were the rock overhang, the waterfalls, and the sandstone.  What we learned before we went was the wet weather waterfalls, sole marks, and ripple marks.  When we were there we also filmed a vocabulary movie where we had to say vocab words in the movie.  I thought the trip was very cool, interesting and the canyon was big.
